A CRISIS

The world is entering a critical juncture, defined by the environmental crisis and the urgent need to rethink growth strategies in order to stay within planetary boundaries. In this context, the Global South faces simultaneous and complex challenges: adapting to increasingly extreme climate conditions, actively engaging in mitigation efforts to avoid being left behind in the green technological transformation, and, at the same time, charting its own course to ensure dignified living conditions and a sustainable future for all.

AN OPORTUNITY

Global transitions open a window of opportunity for the region to drive innovation and break away from the persistent patterns of stagnation that have shaped its trajectory. But seizing this potential is not automatic. It requires evidence-based public policies, tailored to the specific conditions of each country and capable of strengthening local capacities.

Against this backdrop, the Green Transitions project seeks to contribute through information, applied knowledge, methodologies, collaborative networks, and policy recommendations designed to enable the Global South to engage strategically in the global energy transition. Its purpose is clear: to ensure this process does not become a new driver of inequality, but rather a lever for building a fairer, more equitable, and environmentally sustainable model of development.

Our work combines rigorous analysis of global dynamics with in-depth study of national and local contexts in selected countries, in order to identify both the risks and opportunities of the green transition in the Global South. Building on this research, we generate evidence, design policy recommendations, and develop practical tools to maximize benefits and mitigate adverse impacts.

Three teems, one mission

We bring together interdisciplinary teams that integrate quantitative and qualitative approaches, from statistical analysis to comparative research and case studies. This allows us to generate robust evidence that informs strategic recommendations, tailored to diverse contexts. We then engage governments and key stakeholders to share these insights, fostering evidence-based policies that drive sustainable development.

Green Transitions Network

The Green Transitions Network brings together decision-makers and experts from diverse sectors to transform the global shift toward sustainability into tangible opportunities for inclusive development in Latin America.

Rather than focusing only on diagnosis, we emphasize the “how”: the processes behind designing and implementing public policies that drive the ecological transition. We seek to showcase and connect real experiences, institutional learning, and practical tools that are making a difference across governments and productive sectors.

Our goal is to build a peer community of practice for Latin America to strengthen capacities, foster regional cooperation, and share strategic knowledge. A space to exchange not just what works, but how—advancing a transition that is truly just, sustainable, and transformative for the Global South.
